The last date for filing GST returns for May 2021 has been extended

The Center has extended the last date for filing GST returns for the month of May. The date has been extended to June 26 for 15 days. Accordingly, customers can file GST monthly return till that date. On May 28, the GST Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, decided to grant an exemption on the filing of GST returns following the covid epidemic.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC) has listed various exemptions extended by the GST Council. It has also been posted on Twitter. The GST monthly return has to be submitted using the GST ANX-1 and ANX2 forms. In addition to the monthly return, an annual return must also be submitted. The GST Council has extended the deadline for composition dealers to submit their annual returns for the financial year 2020-21 to three months till July 31, 2021.

The annual return should be submitted using the GSTR-4 form. The GST Council has allowed taxpayers registered under the Companies Act to file GST returns using Electronic Verification Code (EVC) instead of Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) till August 31, 2021.
