The Supreme Court directed all the states to protect the children orphaned due to covid. The Supreme Court directed the state government to comply with the directive issued by the central government in this regard.

According to Smriti Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare, 577 children lost their parents and were orphaned due to covid when the figures were examined from April 1 to May 25, 2021.

The minister said the government would intervene in the case of children who have lost their parents to covid and will provide them with the support they need. The minister said this was based on reports received from states and union territories.
